About Cross-Country
Welcome!

Welcome to the St Stephen's Cross-Country Team! We offered Cross-Country since 2003. Cross-Country is open to 6th through 8th graders and we've opened up registration to invite other parishes. Younger runners may also join with special permission by the coaches.

About Cross-Country

Cross-Country is a great fall sport! It’s both an individual and a team sport. You do not run on a track in circles, you run on a marked cross-country course on grass. You run in parks, fields, and sometimes golf courses. Most courses are 1.5 to 2 miles long for this age level.

The actual race season is only 6 weeks long.

Practices

We typically hold practices on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Saturdays. It may seem like a lot but in Cross-Country it's all about conditioning. We schedule the practices to run an hour. We start by warming up and stretching then we run various workouts. Most of our practices will be at Walnut Grove (meet in the North-West area of the Park). Some practices are run on a track for pace work. Sometimes we run in other locations, such as Zorinsky Lake or Skutt HS, for a change of scenery and terrain.

Remember to always dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.

Check the Schedule Page for the latest updates! Things can change so you will need to watch it. Once we start racing, we reduce some of our practice days.

Meets

Meets the first week of September and ends in late October. The runners will need to check in a half-hour before the race to warm-up, stretch and look over the course. That's a lot to do in a short amount of time so it's important not to be late.. The races only last about 20 minutes. So you see the meets are not a big time comittment.

Most races the kids all run together. Some races they separate the kids out by grade or gender.

Communication

Email is our primary source of communication on this team. On occasion we will post information on this site. On this website you will find information about practices, meets, and other announcements.
